Portia J Nicholson is a Corporate and Commercial lawyer with experience in Jamaica and The Bahamas as in-house counsel and as a solo practitioner. Before entering private practice, she was Director of the National Bank of Jamaica’s Portfolio Management Unit, managing the bank’s long term investment portfolio and chairing the Strategic Planning Committee. She had previously prepared legal documentation for the bank’s privatisation in 1990s.

Portia earned an LL.B from the University of the West Indies in 1984 and two years later received a Legal Education Certificate from the Norman Manley Law School. In 1993 she obtained an MBA from Nova Southeastern University. Portia’s continuing executive training has included Harvard Business School’s Focused Financial Management Series and courses in Investment Management at the Jamaica Institute of Bankers.

Ms Nicholson joined Higgs & Johnson as an Associate in 2005. She is a member of the Jamaica Bar Association and a Silver Advanced Toastmaster. She is a former adjunct lecturer at University College of the Caribbean and a past president of Nova Southeastern University Alumni Association.
