| John K F Delaney is Managing Partner
at Higgs & Johnson (effective Jan. 2007) and
has extensive expertise in Bahamas commercial law,
specialising in financial services law. Privately
engaged during the year 2000 by organisations representing
the financial services industry and then made available
to the government, Mr Delaney advised the administration
from a private sector perspective on issues pertaining
to the restructuring of industry legislation in
response to the initiatives of the Financial Stability
Forum, Financial Action Task Force and OECD. He
was appointed to the Bahamas Senate (FNM) in 2005.
John was educated at the University of Birmingham
(LL.B) in England before being admitted to the
Bars of England & Wales and The Bahamas in
1987. The following year, he earned an LL.M (Hons)
from the University of London School of Economics
and Political Science. He has practiced with Higgs
& Johnson since 1989 and has been a Partner
since 1994.
Mr Delaney is a former lecturer at the College
of The Bahamas (1991-94); Director of the Bahamas
Financial Services Board (2000-04); Director of
the National Insurance Board (2001-02); and National
Youth Advisory Committee (1997-2002). As past
chairman of the Bahamas Bar Association’s
Select Committee on Advertising (1995-97), Mr.
Delaney led a team that revised the rules governing
advertising by the legal profession in this jurisdiction.
John Delaney currently serves on the Board of
Directors of the Finance Corporation of The Bahamas
(RBC FinCo); Burns House Ltd; Commonwealth Brewery;
and Hottinger Bank & Trust Ltd.
